ABOUT MUSIC MATTERS
Located in Northern Kentucky, Music Matters was formed
by Kate Legge, a
Board Certified Music Therapist, and provides music
therapy services to children and adolescents with special needs. Music therapy provides
a unique range of music-based experiences tailored to meet the needs
of each individual. These experiences are designed in a purposeful
and developmentally appropriate manner to effect changes in a client’s
behavior and facilitate development of communication, social/emotional,
sensori-motor, and/or cognitive skills. Music therapy enhances
the quality of life. It involves relationships between therapist
and client; between one client and another; between client and family;
and between the music and its participants. These relationships are structured
and adapted through the use of music to create a positive environment
and set the occasion for successful growth.
ABOUT KATE LEGGE, MT-BC…
Kate holds a bachelor of music in Music Therapy from the University
of Evansville. She completed a clinical internship with Midwest
Music Therapy Services in St. Louis, Missouri and upon completion, joined
the company’s team of Board Certified therapists. Contract
services were provided to children with special needs in St. Louis County’s
Special School District, as well as private in-home therapy. Most
clients served were diagnosed on the autism spectrum. Kate returned
to the tri-state area in the summer of 2008 and performed contracted
music therapy services locally. A drive to increase awareness of
music therapy combined with the urge to direct her own company lead to
formation of Music Matters Inc., which provides contract services to
local agencies and private in-home therapy. Through music therapy,
Kate is able to combine two of her passions: a love of music and the
desire to positively affect and inspire change in the lives of children
with special needs and their families.
